Answers to questions above from class:

Pre-study Questions

  1. Sin- missing the mark, falling short.
  2. Eve committed the first sin by eating the forbidden fruit.
  3. The root of all sin is temptation.
  4. Eve is to blame for sin.
  5. The consequence of sin is not going to heaven.

Study Questions

  1. Serpent, Eve, Adam, God
  2. Eve adds another restriction on top of God's command, saying they shouldn't even touch the fruit. This indicates that she is already doubting God's goodness and generosity.
  3. Yes and no. The serpent was right on a couple things but wrong on a couple things. It deceived and tricked Adam and Eve.
  4. Eve, but also Adam, because he was standing next to Eve the whole time during the temptation. See verse 6, "Eve gave some to her husband who was with her."
  5. They committed sins in this order:
    1. Doubt (unbelief): They second guessed God (v. 3). Unbelief is the root of all sin.
    2. Lust (wrong desire): They lusted after the forbidden fruit (v. 6a).
    3. Pride: They wanted to be like God (v. 6b).
  6. They were ashamed.

Translation of "sin" and "Ten Commandments" in Hmong?

Nyob zoo, could anyone help me on how to translate "sin" into Hmong? I have used Kex Txhoj, or kev txhuj in Hmong ntsuab, often seem to meet disagrement, especially from non-christian Hmong friends who said that this translation is too "christian biased". Please help me?
Also, on other note, how should I translate 'Ten Commandments' into Hmong?
Thank you all so much

Re: Original Sin Worksheet

Would you please focus on the positive? -What's original Virtue? -Emphasizing on the negative is somehow and somewhat validating it. For by doing so, we shift our focus and energy onto it to the detriment of vitues.

Don't you see all the marvels God blessed us with? -Let's praise, glorify God for all those wonders and beauties instead of searching for all those evil things God dislikes.

Re: Original Sin Worksheet

First and foremost, we should understand that the serpent mentioned in this story is purely metaphoric - and thus the serpent should never bare the image of evil and or devil in any way. Serpent being a creature of God the Almighty, it is with His blessings just like any other creature, and should be treated with consideration.

The deceiver [therein depicted as the serpent] can be in any form and or nature, including human being with an angel face.

Eve and Adam failed God by defiance, disobedience - Eve was not the first and only one who broke the rules; Adam was there and consented with her to do so, yet instead of taking full responsibility of his action, he pointed the figner to Eve...as humans do most of the times - blaming others.

A deceiver, devil, satan...whatever, can tempt any and all of us - we have no control over their action(s), and yet we are free to think, to choose, to act of our free will; whatever we decide and do, we'll have to be accountable for to the full extent of our responsibility. Quote:Eve is to blame for sin. -Give me a break! You seem to look for a scape goat for everything.

Quote: They committed sins in this order:
1 Doubt (unbelief): They second guessed God (v. 3). Unbelief is the root of all sin.
2. Lust (wrong desire): They lusted after the forbidden fruit (v. 6a).
3. Pride: They wanted to be like God (v. 6b).

I simply think they just disobeyed by defiance to the command God conveyed.

I dispute your statement "Pride: They wanted to be like God" - for pride is not necessarily negative -in the contrary, if they really have pride, they would not have failed God. To have pride is to foster and nurture dignity, respect for self and others...and first of all having integrity, loyalty... and to be like God? If so, how and what? - God is wisdom, righteousness, goodness, care, love, so forth and so on... you want to be like God? So be it! Think and act like God in every single aspect of life...be merciful, compassionate, kind, good, peaceful...

With this said, I do believe God created humans with qualities and virtues we should acknowledge, validate and appreciate to the fullest. What I really concern of: nowadays, preachers (most of them) discount the qualities and virtues to emphasizing on and validating the negative factors (sins). God did not create us to be pitiful, bitter and negative. Shift focus on the positve, the qualities, and you will see how wonderful and how blessed God has created us! -the thinking, freedom of choice, responsiblity, liberty, ability, courage, endurance, intelectual capacity...so forth and so on. Look at the bright side, for God is radiance. Who sees impossible, God says I M Possible... so, do it, and make the world and life better for self, others and for God.
