Short term missions

In recent years, we have seen many church groups go on short-term mission trips overseas. Typically, they have to raise more than $10000 to pay for the plane ticket, lodging, and other expenses. The trips are usually no more than two weeks. I do not doubt that God's work is done in these short term missions. However, I wonder if that money raised would be better off used to support one missionary for a longer period of time (i.e. one year). The missionary has more time to develop relationships and create sustaining programs in the missional community.

Thoughts?

Good thought!! I think the same! Well it depends on the situation. You can 'get' young people in a very short time. But you have to be sure that they will a find a place to get spritual nurriture. It is hard if you wanna understand the bible if you've just let jesus in your life. ( I know it in Africa, the prozelitize ppl, but they have not spiritual leaders. Sometimes they begin to practice their occultism again :-(

I guess you all know the 'Doulos'. The the ship. I think this is a great thing. It doesn't stay long at one port. But it will enter the port again.

But I guess Jesus tells you if and where you have to invest :D

Just my opinion...

All depend on as how we perceive and define the term "Mission".
I sadly realize that there're too many people who read the Bible without the least underdanding it, and even worse, many preach the Bible without practicing it.

To me, a true follower of Christ should live with significance, righteousness, compassion every wake of life. He/she should spread the Gospels through actions [not words]. Too many Hmong Christians are so very fervent to spread the 'Good News' to outside world, but refuse and reject his/her own family members... that hypocrite behavior is against God's will.
